12' x 15' Rugs

12' x 15' rugs are for large living rooms, great rooms and open-plan spaces where a smaller rug would float. Designs include plush contemporary abstracts, brushstroke and distressed patterns, bordered traditional and medallion rugs, geometric low-pile styles and hand tufted wool, with stain-resistant and washable options.

For slightly smaller rooms, compare 10x13 rugs and 9x12 rugs. Tip: tape out 12 by 15 feet on the floor first to check that every seat lands on the rug.

Is a 12x15 rug right for your room?

A 12x15 covers 180 square feet, so it suits rooms of roughly 15 by 18 feet or larger.

  • Great rooms: fit the sofa, loveseat, chairs and coffee table fully on the rug for a single defined seating zone.
  • Open plans: use the rug to mark the living area and leave bare floor around the dining zone.
  • Large dining rooms: works under tables seating ten or more, with chairs on the rug when pulled out.
  • Primary bedrooms: a king bed plus benches and nightstands can all sit on it.

Leave 12 to 24 inches of floor between the rug and walls. Large rugs need a full-size pad to stay flat and to protect floors. Rotate the rug every six months so sun and traffic wear evenly.
