8' x 11' Rugs

An 8' x 11' rug adds a foot of length over a standard 8x10, which helps long sofas, sectionals and rectangular dining tables keep every leg on the rug. Designs include Oriental medallions, bordered florals, distressed abstracts, southwestern geometrics and hand-carved trellis patterns, with machine washable and pet-friendly options.

Compare with 8x10 area rugs or go larger with 9x12 rugs. Tip: measure your seating or table plus chairs pulled out before choosing between sizes.

When to choose an 8x11 rug

The 8x11 is the answer when an 8x10 almost fits but leaves a chair leg or end table hanging off.

  • Living room: with a sofa up to about 90 inches, the 11-foot side lets the front legs of the sofa and both accent chairs sit on the rug.
  • Dining room: the rug should extend 24 to 30 inches past each side of the table so chairs stay on it when pulled out. An 8x11 suits most rectangular tables up to roughly 84 inches long.
  • Bedroom: placed under a queen or king bed, it leaves a comfortable border on both sides.

Keep 12 to 18 inches of bare floor between the rug edge and the walls so the room does not look carpeted. Use a pad cut slightly smaller than the rug, about an inch in on each side.
