How to display art glass
Glass needs light to show its color, so placement matters as much as the piece itself.
- Use natural light. A windowsill, a shelf near a window or a console across from one lets daylight pass through the glass.
- Add a lamp at night. A table lamp or picture light beside the piece keeps the color visible after dark.
- Choose a quiet background. A white or neutral wall behind the glass lets its color read clearly.
- Group by color. Two or three pieces in related tones look intentional; mixing many colors works best on an open shelf with space between pieces.
Keep glass away from the edge of tables and high-traffic shelves, and use small museum putty pads if children or pets are around. Clean with a soft cloth and mild soapy water, then dry right away to prevent spots; avoid abrasive cleaners. Do not leave glass where strong sun could focus heat on fabric or wood. Our shelf styling guide shows how to space display pieces, and all sculptures includes more materials.
