You can’t add square footage with decor — but you can absolutely add perceived space. These nine tricks are what stagers use to make small bedrooms photograph (and feel) twice their size.
Reflect the light
Nothing expands a room like a large mirror placed opposite or beside the window — it doubles the daylight and the view. A tall leaning mirror also pulls the eye upward, making ceilings feel higher.
Free the floor
Swap bulky table lamps for wall lighting beside the bed, choose slim nightstands with legs you can see under, and size the rug right: an 8' x 10' that slides under the bed beats a small rug floating in front of it — bigger rug, bigger-looking room.
Keep the palette calm
Low-contrast, tonal decor reads as spacious: layered neutrals, soft throws, and a couple of textured pillows in the same family. Save the bold color for one piece of calming wall art above the headboard.
